Greater Bengaluru Authority Chief Commissioner outlines three-stage voter list revision plan ahead of GBA elections, says only continuous revision underway for now.
Amid preparations for the upcoming Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) elections, GBA Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao has clarified that no instructions have been received so far from the Election Commission regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Speaking on the preparedness of the civic body, Maheshwar Rao said that the GBA will take immediate action the moment formal directions are issued. “We will work strictly based on the instructions given by the Election Commission and act without delay,” he said.
Explaining the process in detail, the Chief Commissioner stated that the voter list revision will be carried out in three structured stages.

The first stage is the regular or continuous revision, which is part of the routine process followed every year. This is based on the number of applications received annually for additions, deletions, or corrections in the voter list. Under this system, updates are carried out four times a year, once every quarter. At present, this is the only revision process currently in progress.
The second stage is the Special Summary Revision (SSR). Under this phase, verification of voter details will be taken up. Rao said this verification will be conducted using both offline and online methods, ensuring wider coverage and ease of access for citizens.
The third stage involves a Special Intensive Revision, which is more detailed. This phase includes door-to-door verification, along with thorough checking of supporting documents submitted by voters to ensure accuracy and authenticity.

Maheshwar Rao reiterated that while only continuous revision is underway now, the GBA is fully prepared to roll out the summary revision and the intensive revision immediately after receiving Election Commission approval.
