Hebbal flyover inauguration sparks chaos: MP Tejasvi Surya caught in 50-minute traffic snarl

Morning rush-hour inauguration by CM Siddaramaiah and DyCM DK Shivakumar led to severe congestion at Hebbal Junction, leaving commuters, including MP Tejasvi Surya stranded.

Bengaluru’s notorious traffic gridlock reached new heights on Monday morning during the inauguration of the Hebbal flyover. What was meant to ease congestion ironically created a major jam, trapping hundreds of commuters, among them, Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya.

The flyover was formally opened by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar during peak office hours. The timing coincided with the heavy inflow of vehicles from the airport and surrounding areas, resulting in long delays across Hebbal Junction and the Airport Road stretch.

MP Tejasvi Surya, on his way to catch a flight to Delhi for the Parliament session, found himself stuck for nearly 50 minutes in the traffic pile-up. Later, he took to social media to voice his frustration, tagging the Deputy Chief Minister’s account while questioning the government’s planning.

In his post, Surya criticized the decision to hold the ribbon-cutting during a Monday morning rush hour, when city residents were returning from the weekend and heading to work. He argued that a lack of foresight by the state government had directly burdened ordinary citizens, who were already grappling with Bengaluru’s traffic challenges.
