Infosys’s ₹250‑crore land sale to Puravankara faces scrutiny; govt confirms plot was privately bought, not allotted, sparking debate on resale of concessional

A Rs 250‑crore land transaction in Bengaluru involving technology giant Infosys and real estate developer Puravankara has come under public and political scrutiny. The deal, finalized on December 20, 2025, concerns a 53.56‑acre parcel located at Arehalli village near Attibele, which was acquired by Purva Blue Home Ventures Private Limited, a subsidiary of Puravankara.

Clarification on Land Status
Speculation initially arose that the land sold was part of the concessional allotments made to Infosys by the Karnataka government. Such allotments are typically restricted from resale. However, officials from the Industries Department clarified that the property in question was not government‑allotted but privately acquired by Infosys. The company had purchased the land five years earlier from Sobha Developers and associated parties.

Transaction Details
Records show that Infosys acquired the land at a consideration amount of Rs 4.28 crore, while the market value at the time was estimated at Rs 30.93 lakh. The recent sale to Puravankara has now been valued at Rs 250 crore, sparking debate about the resale of land linked to corporate holdings in Bengaluru’s technology corridor.

The land sold lies close to Phase 2 of Electronic City, where Infosys has previously received multiple plots from the Karnataka government between 1998 and 2002. These include parcels measuring 56,959.9 acres in 1998, 32,400 acres in 1999, 8,046 acres in survey number 9‑Part, and 16,191 acres in 2002. These allotments were intended for the company’s expansion projects and remain under its use.

Government Control Over Allotted Land
Department records indicate that once a project is completed and a sale deed is executed, the government has no further control over the property. Sale deeds granting companies the right to sell allotted land were issued in March 2006, formalizing this process.

Public Reaction
The transaction has generated significant debate on social media, with questions raised about whether companies should be permitted to commercially benefit from land originally allotted for specific purposes. Infosys has since clarified that the land sold to Puravankara was acquired independently in the open market and not part of its government‑allotted holdings.
