BMRCL launches QR code–based day, 3-day and 5-day unlimited Metro passes, removing the need for smart cards and security deposits.
Bengaluru Metro passengers have reason to cheer as the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced the launch of QR code–based unlimited travel passes, marking a major step towards a fully digital ticketing system.
From January 15, commuters can use QR-based passes for unlimited travel on Namma Metro. The new facility includes one-day, three-day and five-day passes, allowing passengers to travel freely without depending on physical smart cards.
According to BMRCL, this move is aimed at promoting digital ticketing and making Metro travel quicker and more convenient. At present, QR tickets and passes can be purchased through the official BMRCL mobile application. The corporation has also confirmed that QR ticket options will soon be made available on other mobile apps.

Until now, unlimited travel passes were available only through contactless smart cards, which required passengers to pay a refundable security deposit of ₹50. With the introduction of QR-based passes, commuters can now obtain passes directly on their mobile phones without paying any security deposit.
The pricing of the new mobile QR passes has also been announced. A one-day pass is priced at ₹250, a three-day pass at ₹550, and a five-day pass at ₹850. In comparison, smart card–based passes, which include the ₹50 security deposit, cost ₹300 for one day, ₹600 for three days, and ₹900 for five days.

The details were shared through an official BMRCL media release.
