Basavanagudi police have arrested a Kannada professor who allegedly led a double life, teaching students on weekdays and stealing gold from wedding halls on weekends across Bengaluru.
In a shocking case of a double life exposed, the Basavanagudi police have arrested a woman professor who allegedly turned into a serial gold thief during weekends. The accused, identified as Revathi, worked as a Kannada professor at a private engineering college near Bellandur, teaching students throughout the week.
Police said Revathi followed a calculated pattern. From Monday to Saturday, she lived the life of an academic, conducting classes and maintaining a respectable image. On Sundays, however, she allegedly targeted wedding halls across Bengaluru, posing as a relative of the bride or groom to gain easy access without raising suspicion.

According to investigators, Revathi would enter marriage halls confidently, mingle with guests, and carefully identify women wearing heavy gold jewellery amid wedding celebrations. Taking advantage of the crowded and festive atmosphere, she would allegedly steal gold ornaments and quietly exit the venue after having the wedding meal.
One such incident occurred on November 25 at Dwarakanath Kalyana Mantapa in Basavanagudi, where she reportedly executed a similar theft and escaped unnoticed. Police said she had carried out thefts in multiple marriage halls using the same method.
Revathi is originally from Shivamogga and was living in K.R. Puram in Bengaluru. During interrogation, Basavanagudi police uncovered at least three theft cases linked to her, with evidence suggesting she had committed similar crimes in different districts as well.

Police recovered gold jewellery weighing 262 grams, valued at approximately ₹32 lakh, along with cash from the accused. Investigations revealed that Revathi had pledged the stolen gold at pawn shops to raise money. Some of the stolen jewellery was found at her residence and in bank lockers. She had also reportedly taken gold loans in her husband’s name using the stolen ornaments.
Basavanagudi police confirmed that two marriage halls within their jurisdiction were targeted by her and further investigation is ongoing to identify more victims and recover additional stolen property.
