BWSSB identifies rusted ageing pipeline as source of contaminated water; replacement work underway to restore clean supply
The long-standing problem of contaminated drinking water in Lingarajapuram has been traced to a rusted pipeline that is over four decades old, following a successful robotic inspection carried out by the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB).
Officials confirmed that the ageing 40-year-old pipeline had developed corrosion due to its advanced age, leading to contamination in the water being supplied to residents. The source of the problem was identified using robotic technology, which helped accurately locate the damaged section of the pipeline.

Residents of Lingarajapuram had been facing serious health concerns for nearly 15 days due to the supply of contaminated water. In response to the situation, BWSSB had suspended drinking water supply in the area for the past four days as a precautionary measure while investigations and inspections were conducted.
Once the contamination source was detected, the water board acted swiftly and decided to replace the old pipeline entirely. Officials stated that the decision was taken immediately to prevent further health risks and ensure a long-term solution to the problem.
The BWSSB has assured that once the pipeline replacement work is completed, clean and safe drinking water supply will be resumed without delay. The board has reiterated its commitment to addressing infrastructure-related issues promptly, especially in older localities with ageing water networks.
