Bengaluru Deputy CM D K Shivakumar announces dedicated fund for Lalbagh’s roads, safety, and facilities, assuring minimal impact from the upcoming tunnel road project.
Lalbagh’s roads have long been a challenge for walkers, joggers, and senior citizens due to uneven surfaces and worn-out tar layers. Frequent visitors highlighted the hazards, noting several recent trips and falls. Roads in many stretches have the top asphalt layer missing, making surfaces unsafe for daily users.

Deputy CM D K Shivakumar announced a dedicated fund of Rs 10 crore for Lalbagh as part of the ‘Walk With Bengaluru’ initiative. The fund will be managed by the Lalbagh Association and users, ensuring no political interference. Approved works may include asphalting roads, installing street lights, building open gyms, and setting up shelters. Within 15 days, a doctor and standby ambulance will be made available, and the ban on DSLR cameras will be lifted for students and researchers.
Regarding the tunnel road project, concerns about Lalbagh losing land were addressed. Reports suggesting six acres would be affected were clarified as false. Only half an acre will be used for the entry and exit ramp, with an additional acre temporarily for equipment storage. No trees will be cut, and any removed plants will be replanted carefully. The project aims to decongest city roads while preserving Lalbagh’s legacy.
