Two BBA students lost their lives at Hoskere Lake near Ramanagara, while three others drowned off Kundapur’s Gopady Beach, turning outings with friends into heartbreaking farewells.
A Sunday of leisure turned devastating for two groups of Bengaluru students, as five young lives were tragically cut short in separate drowning incidents.
At Averahalli’s Hoskere Lake in Ramanagara South, Siddharth (20) and Nishanth (21), both BBA students of a private college, slipped into the waters while attempting to take selfies around 4:30 pm. Despite their friends’ desperate cries for help and the swift response of locals, fire and emergency teams could only recover their lifeless bodies. Nishanth’s body was found first, while Siddharth’s was retrieved after a two-hour search. Police have registered an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, at Kundapur’s Gopady Beach, a group of 10 friends from Bengaluru faced tragedy when four were pulled in by a strong current. Gautam and Lokesh, both engineering students, and Ashish, a PU student, drowned, while Nirup survived after being rescued and rushed to a private hospital in Manipal.
The twin incidents have sparked grief and alarm across Bengaluru. Experts and authorities once again warn that unsafe selfies near water bodies and swimming in unmonitored beaches pose life-threatening risks. Both incidents serve as stark reminders of how a moment of fun can turn fatal.
