On his birthday, actor Darshan’s legal team moves court seeking day-to-day hearing to fast-track trial and pave way for fresh bail plea.
Actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, the second accused (A2) in the high-profile Renukaswamy murder case from Chitradurga, has made a renewed legal attempt to secure his release after spending six months in judicial custody. On his birthday, Darshan’s legal team submitted a crucial application before the 57th Sessions Court, seeking a fast-tracked trial on a day-to-day basis.
The plea has been filed under Section 309 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), urging the court to conduct daily hearings without delay. The defence has requested that the trial proceedings be expedited so that the examination of key witnesses can be completed at the earliest.

Darshan, along with Pavithra Gowda and five other main accused, was remanded to judicial custody after their bail was cancelled on August 14, 2025. Since then, the actor has remained behind bars, completing six months in jail. In this backdrop, his legal team has devised a fresh strategy to push for early hearings.
According to legal sources, the move is aimed at speeding up the trial process, which could help Darshan approach the court again for bail once crucial witness examinations are concluded. By seeking daily hearings, the defence hopes to demonstrate cooperation with the judicial process and reduce prolonged incarceration.
The application was submitted on Monday, coinciding with Darshan’s birthday, adding symbolic significance to the legal development. However, the prosecution is reportedly preparing to strongly oppose the plea. With the trial already underway, the prosecution is expected to argue against daily hearings, citing procedural and logistical challenges.
Legal experts say the court’s decision on this plea could be crucial in shaping the future course of the trial. If accepted, the proceedings may move at a much faster pace, potentially opening the door for a renewed bail application by Darshan.
