Purple and Green Line services to be strengthened as passenger rush crosses 10 lakh daily mark
Namma Metro commuters in Bengaluru are set to receive a major boost in travel convenience, with three new metro train sets expected to be added to the fleet by the end of June. The new trains will be deployed on the Purple Line and Green Line, which currently witness the highest passenger traffic, especially on weekdays.
The trains are being manufactured by Titagarh Rail Systems Limited, and the third DTG train from the company is expected to be delivered by June-end. Once these three new trains are inducted, train services on the Purple and Green corridors will be further intensified, helping reduce overcrowding and waiting time during peak hours.

At present, a total of 57 trains are operational on the Purple and Green Lines. However, the average weekday ridership has already crossed the 10-lakh mark, leading to heavy congestion, particularly during office hours. The arrival of additional trains is expected to ease passenger density and improve service frequency, offering long-awaited relief to daily commuters.
Officials said that train operations will be adjusted based on passenger demand, ensuring smoother and more efficient travel across both corridors. After the delivery of the three DTG train sets, the remaining CBTC-equipped trains will be gradually deployed on the Yellow Line. In the final phase of expansion, an additional 18 trains are planned to be introduced on the Purple and Green Lines, significantly strengthening the metro network.
This phased addition of new rolling stock is part of a broader effort to match service capacity with rapidly growing commuter demand in Bengaluru. With daily ridership consistently rising, the induction of new trains is expected to improve punctuality, reduce crowding, and enhance overall passenger experience.
