56-year-old Sudha Parimala suffers serious injuries after falling into an uncovered roadside pit near JJ Circle; police rescue her after tracking her phone location, while a negligence case is filed against engineers and contractors.
A serious incident reported in Bengaluru has raised concerns about safety lapses in ongoing road works. A 56-year-old woman identified as Sudha Parimala suffered severe injuries after falling into a 25-foot-deep pit near JJ Circle on the Outer Ring Road side, close to Nagarbhavi Park in the Chandralayout area.
Following the incident, a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the concerned GBA engineer and the contractor responsible for the road work, after allegations that the accident occurred due to negligence during the construction activity.
According to the complaint, the pit had been dug as part of road work but was not properly closed or secured. Authorities had also failed to place warning boards or safety signs near the site. Despite the presence of a deep pit beside the road, no precautionary measures were taken, which reportedly led to the accident.
Sudha Parimala had stepped out of her house in the morning for her routine walk. While walking near Nagarbhavi Park in Chandralayout, she accidentally slipped and fell into the deep pit, which was nearly 25 feet deep. Shockingly, she remained trapped inside the pit for around six to eight hours, and no one noticed her during that period.
When Sudha Parimala did not return home even by night, her family members became worried and tried repeatedly to call her phone. Initially, she did not respond, which further increased the family’s concern.
Later in the night, Sudha Parimala regained consciousness and managed to answer a call from her family. During the conversation, she informed them that she had fallen somewhere and was unable to come out.
Her relatives immediately alerted the Chandralayout Police Station. Police officers quickly began searching for her and used mobile phone tracking technology to trace her location. The signal led them to a deep pit near Nagarbhavi Park, where she was found trapped.
A late-night rescue operation was launched by the police. The operation was led by Chandralayout Assistant Sub-Inspector Srinivas Murthy and Head Constable Vinod, who reached the location and carried out the rescue at around 1 AM.
Using ropes, the police team carefully pulled the woman out of the 25-foot-deep pit, successfully completing the rescue operation. The dramatic rescue was also recorded on video.

After being rescued, Sudha Parimala was immediately shifted to a private hospital for treatment. Doctors have admitted her to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where she is currently receiving medical care.
Medical reports indicate that she suffered serious injuries to the head, neck, stomach and several other parts of the body due to the fall.
Following the incident, a formal complaint has been filed against the GBA engineer and the contractor responsible for the road work, accusing them of negligence and failure to implement safety measures at the site. Authorities are now investigating the matter.
