Venkatesh Prasad has criticized Congress Party's manifesto
Congress party proposed conducting wealth redistribution survey
He described the idea as "pathetic," likening it to redistributing IPL points
Former cricketer Venkatesh Prasad has criticized the Congress Party’s proposal of conducting a wealth redistribution survey if the party were to come into power in the Lok Sabha elections. In a tweet on Monday, Prasad described the idea as “pathetic,” drawing a comparison to the redistribution of points among top Indian Premier League (IPL) teams.
One of the political party’s manifesto is to redistribute the wealth of the rich to the poor. The really poor need to be uplifted but this thought process is so pathetic.
It is like saying If we take 4 points from RR and 4 from KKR and SRH and re-distribute it to the bottom 3…— Venkatesh Prasad (@venkateshprasad) April 22, 2024
Without directly naming the Congress, Prasad suggested that the party’s manifesto resembles taking points from the top four IPL teams and reallocating them to the bottom three to ensure their participation in the playoffs.

Prasad’s remarks came in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s allegations that the Congress would redistribute the country’s wealth to “infiltrators” and “those who have children” if elected. Modi’s comments ignited a strong reaction from opposition parties.
The Prime Minister’s accusations followed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s promise made during a rally in Hyderabad on April 6. Gandhi had announced that if the Congress were to win the elections, they would conduct a comprehensive financial and institutional survey to determine the distribution of wealth among the nation’s populace.
Prasad’s critique underscores the ongoing debate over economic policies and redistribution strategies as India’s political landscape heats up ahead of the elections.
