Here are excerpts from the interview:

  • How different a ballgame is politics for you, considering that you have spent long years in the medical field?

Even as a cardiologist, I used to interact with a lot of patients. In my 30 years of service, I have come across 75 lakh patients directly. Indirectly, with 2 crore people. Meeting people wasn’t new. I have never sat inside AC rooms discussing with patients. Politics, to me, is also a service sector.

  • How would you gain an entry into the hearts of people?

As a cardiologist, I was fixing hearts. As a politician, I have to win the hearts of the voters. But honestly, it is a complex procedure.

  • How do you see Narendra Modi in your scheme of things?

He is a very confident man who is capable of taking bold decisions. He gives importance to all and recognises talents in different fields.
