Bengaluru has a deep affection for idlis, particularly the rawa variety. On the occasion of ‘World Idli Day,’ on March 30, Swiggy revealed that a Swiggy user from Hyderabad has ordered idlis worth Rs 7.3 lakh over the past year.

According to Swiggy, the prime time for idli orders falls between 8 am and 10 am. Interestingly, not only Bengaluru but also cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, Coimbatore, and Mumbai enjoy this delicacy during dinner hours. Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai stand out as the top three cities where idlis are in high demand, closely followed by Mumbai, Pune, Coimbatore, Delhi, Vizag, Kolkata, and Vijayawada.

Plain idlis remain the most popular choice across all cities, with a standard order being a plate of two pieces.

Swiggy mentioned in its statement that Bengaluru holds a special fondness for rava idlis, whereas ghee/neyi karam podi idlis are preferred in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. Additionally, Thatte idli and mini idlis also frequently appear in idli orders across various cities.

On the Swiggy platform, idlis rank as the second-most ordered breakfast item, just behind masala dosa.

The top five restaurants renowned for their idlis include Asha Tiffins and Veena Stores in Bengaluru, A2B – Adyar Ananda Bhavan in Bengaluru and Chennai, Varalakshmi Tiffins in Hyderabad, and Sree Akshayam in Chennai, according to Swiggy.
