Gambhir, Kohli had had a sordid past
The two, however, decided to bury the past
It signals the end of a rivalry
Former Indian cricketers Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir were not known to be good friends. Their spat on the field in the earlier versions stands testimony to this fact.
However, in the match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M Chinnaswamy, Gautam Gambhir, the senior of the two players, came forward, shook hands and even hugged Virat Kohli. The incident took place during one of the strategic timeouts.
Another former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan noted this point. He stressed that ‘you cross the line in the past, but when you meet in the future, you meet nicely’.
The roots of the Kohli-Gambhir spat
It was in 2013 that Kohli and Gambhir gave birth to their rivalry. While Kohli captained RCB, Gambhir captained KKR. After Kohli had gotten out, it was Gambhir who actually said something to him. This flared up the former RCB captain, thereby inducing a bitter war of words between the two.
It was Rajat Bhatia, a former KKR player, who had to separate the two.
KKR beat RCB
It was KKR who beat RCB yesterday (March 29). While RCB scored 182/6 in the allotted 20 overs, KKR romped home to victory in just the 17th over. They easily defeated RCB by a convincing 7 wickets.
