In an official note dated October 28, released to the media on Friday, the Chief Minister reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to environmental protection and the promotion of indigenous and sustainable practices.
Siddaramaiah emphasised that government departments must strictly implement the ban on plastic bottles and use alternatives such as steel, copper, or glass containers. “Instructions had been issued earlier to use eco-friendly materials instead of plastic bottles for drinking water in all government offices and meetings. Necessary steps should be taken to implement this measure strictly,” the Chief Minister stated.

Additionally, the Chief Minister instructed all departments to mandatorily use Nandini products, produced by the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), for serving beverages and dairy items during official programmes and meetings, including those conducted in the Vidhana Soudha and the Secretariat.
The move is aimed at reducing plastic waste, promoting sustainability, and encouraging local enterprises like KMF that contribute significantly to the state’s economy. Government officials have been asked to ensure compliance with the directive at every administrative level.
