In a first-of-its-kind spectacle, Deputy CM D K Shivakumar launched the Cauvery Aarti at KRS Brindavana, mirroring Varanasi’s Ganga Aarti, drawing thousands in devotion.
The lifeline of Karnataka, River Cauvery, was worshipped in a historic spectacle at KRS Brindavana Gardens, where Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar’s long-cherished dream of performing a grand Cauvery Aarti took shape. Modeled on Varanasi’s iconic Ganga Aarti, the event lit up the night sky and drew thousands of devotees into its spiritual embrace.

The Deputy CM, joined by his wife, offered the inaugural prayers, marking the beginning of the five-day ritual. With temple priests chanting mantras and a Vedic team from Varanasi leading the Aarti, the banks of the Cauvery turned into a spiritual powerhouse. The ceremony began with “Vatapi Ganapathim Bhaje” and was followed by devotional hymns in reverence to Goddess Cauvery.
Adding grandeur to the evening, music director Arjun Janya and noted singers enthralled the crowd, while a dazzling laser show narrated the splendour of Mysuru Dasara. The shimmering diyas, rhythmic chants, and fluttering Kannada flags created an atmosphere that merged tradition with cultural pride.

Shivakumar dedicated the event to Cauvery’s role as Karnataka’s lifeline, quenching the thirst of millions and irrigating the fields of farmers. “With the blessings of Goddess Chamundeshwari and Cauvery, we pray for the success of Mekedatu project,” he declared, as the crowd responded with chants and applause.
The inaugural night was just the beginning, as thousands are expected to throng Brindavana over the coming 5 days to witness the Cauvery Aarti, now etched as a cultural milestone in the state’s devotional calendar.
