A group of concerned parents gathered outside the residence of the Chief Minister to raise an important issue related to school admissions. The parents came along with their children and stood outside the Chief Minister’s residence and the ‘Krishna’ home office, seeking a solution to the mandatory six-year age requirement for Class 1 admissions.

They appealed to the government to provide a 90-day relaxation in the rule, saying that many children are missing the eligibility age by only a few weeks or months.

Parents explained that the present rule requires a child to be six years old to get admission into Class 1. However, several children fall short of the age limit by a very small margin, sometimes just two or three months.

Because of this, they are being asked to continue in the same class for another year, which parents say is creating serious difficulties for families and children.

According to the parents, the strict age rule is directly affecting their children’s academic progress and future plans. Many children have already completed their previous class and are mentally prepared to move ahead with their studies.
However, due to the age rule, they are being forced to repeat the same level again.

Parents also shared emotional concerns about their children. Many children are unable to understand why they must stay back while their friends move ahead.

Some children reportedly say that their friends are joining Class 1 and they also want to go with them, but parents are finding it difficult to convince them to wait another year.

In one case shared by a parent, a child is short of the required age by only 20 days. Despite this small difference, the child is being asked to continue in the same class.

Parents said children are becoming upset and stubborn about the issue. Even when families try to explain that they can join Class 1 the following year, many children are not willing to accept the explanation.

The parents believe this situation is affecting the mental health of the children, as they feel left behind when their friends move ahead in school.
