    Malfunction observed in Chikmagalur, Tumkur and Mandya

    Malfunction caused delays in commencement of voting

The second phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha Election is underway. Voters in 14 constituencies across Karnataka will be polling on 26th April. The polling started at 7 AM. However, instances of malfunction of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) have been reported. This has caused delays in the voting process. 

Such instances have been observed in Chikmagalur, Tumkur and Mandya. A fault in EVMs observed in Chikmagalur has caused voters to stay in the queue for more than an hour. The incident was observed in the Menasuru village in the N.R Pura taluk. The voters were outraged and expressed their anger against the officers. Many of the voters in this segment are involved in menial labour and this glitch put them in a state of distress. A similar incident was also reported in the Arenooru village. This is related to polling station Number 53.

The Madhugiri taluk in the Tumkur district also reported a similar delay. There was a delay of 45 minutes in polling station number 49. There was an issue with the Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT). There was an issue with the EVM in Tumkur city. This was in polling station number 66. There was a delay of 30 minutes. 

A delay was also observed in Makavalli that falls in the K.R Pete Taluk in polling station number 100. Polling commenced at 7:40 A.M.
