First-time voters expect honesty, integrity from MPs
Hygiene, hospital, infrastructure on top of the list
They also expect more interactions with people
Even as India is voting in a 7-phase election to elect a new government, Karnataka will go to polls in 2 phases, April 26 and May 7.
NewsFirst Prime got in touch with a few youngsters who are first-time voters and sought their expectations.
RG Gunashree, 1st year BE student, Nitte Meenakshi institute of technology, a Bangalore South voter, says: “Water crisis is the most urgent issue to be addressed in the constituency. The elected MP should ensure the sufficient drinking water demand to be addressed in the area.”

“The elected MP should work towards the people’s requirements and for the public welfare. He/she should maintain the integrity of a leader, work towards development and for publicity. As a youth, I strongly oppose bribing the voters for the votes. The political parties should be ashamed to be involved in such an act. I aspire to see transparent, democratic elections.”
Rohith Vishwanath, 1st year BE student, Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology, from Bangalore Rural has this to say:
“Our Members of Parliament should embody honesty, loyalty, diligence, and a genuine concern for the environment. They should exhibit strong leadership qualities, intellectual prowess, and sensible decision-making to effectively address the needs of our society.”
“I aspire for the eradication of corruption in India. It’s essential for the present and future of Indian politics to prioritize transparency, accountability, and ethical governance. By combating corruption, we can pave the way for a more equitable, prosperous, and stable political landscape that fosters growth and development for all citizens.”
“I believe our elected leaders have a crucial role to play in addressing pressing issues such as the water crisis, corruption, education reform, unemployment, and environmental protection. It’s imperative for them to enact strict laws and regulations to tackle these challenges effectively.”
Roopa Anand, 1st year BE student, Nitte Meenakshi institute of technology is a voter from the Tumakuru constituency.
She says, “The elected MP should spend time in his constituency and interact with the residents to understand the requirements at the ground level. The leader should develop a bond with the people, and be capable of raising the voice on pertinent issues in the parliament.”
“I strongly advocate that the reservation system for seat allotment should be changed in the education system. Due to the caste based reservation system, the deserving students are losing fair chances against less scored candidates. This is affecting many students who are not able to enroll in their dream colleges.”
“The hospital health care centers should be revamped with a special focus on hygiene and expertized healthcare professionals. The MP should work towards strengthening the education system in our constituency. There is a dire need for the improvement of public infrastructure in terms of streetlight embedded roads, elevated transportation facilities and parks.”
