The MP Prajwal Revanna obscene videos case has drawn the attention of the National Commission for Women (NCW) prompting them to swing into action to protect women.

The commission has taken a serious view of the obscene videos and has taken up the case suo moto. The commission has directed DGP Alok Mohan to submit a report promptly, within three days. Additionally, the commission has already dispatched a letter regarding the matter to him.

According to the National Commission for Women, they are mandated to monitor and investigate complaints, as well as take suo moto notice of issues concerning the deprivation of women’s rights and the non-implementation of laws designed to protect women. Additionally, they aim to promote equality and development and address related issues with the relevant authorities, as per the powers granted to them under section 10(1)(f) of the National Commission for Women Act, 1990.

“The Commission strongly condemns the incident and is deeply disturbed by its occurrence. Such events not only endanger women’s safety but also foster a culture of disrespect and violence against them. We urge prompt and decisive action from the concerned Police Authority to swiftly apprehend the accused, who has fled the country. A detailed report outlining the measures taken must be submitted to the Commission within three days.” said Rekha Sharma, Chairperson, National Commission for Women in a letter to Alok Mohan, IPS, Director General and Inspector General of Police.
