After 39 deaths at the Karur rally, comparisons with Allu Arjun’s Hyderabad case fuel debate. While no FIR is filed against Vijay yet, calls for his arrest grow louder.
The Karur stampede that claimed 39 lives at Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) rally yesterday has sparked an explosive debate, should the actor-turned-politician be arrested?

Critics are drawing parallels with the Hyderabad “Pushpa 2” premiere case of December 2024, where Allu Arjun was booked after a stampede at Sandhya Theatre claimed the life of a woman named Revathi and injured her son. The superstar was arrested on December 13, later released on interim bail. Now, Vijay’s detractors argue, if Allu Arjun was held accountable for a single death at a theatre event, why has no case been filed against Vijay despite 39 fatalities at Karur?

The accusations point to Vijay’s late arrival as a trigger. The rally was permitted between 3 pm and 10 pm, but supporters had gathered from 11 am. With no water, food, or proper facilities, the crowd grew restless. Instead of arriving on time, Vijay reached only at 7:40 pm. By then, over 27,000 people had packed into a venue that had clearance for just 10,000. As he began his speech, a crush of people collapsed, but eyewitnesses allege he continued addressing the crowd briefly instead of halting the event immediately.

On social media, hashtags demanding “Vijay Arrest” have begun trending. Supporters of the victims claim negligence lies squarely with the TVK chief, while his loyalists counter that the administration’s poor crowd control and lack of arrangements worsened the disaster.
With grief-stricken families mourning and political opponents seizing the moment, the question now is : Will Vijay face the same legal fate as Allu Arjun?
