DAC approves ₹79,000 crore defence deals: Army to get munitions, radars, Pinaka rockets, drone defence; Navy to add BP tugs, HF radios, HALE drones

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has approved proposals worth ₹79,000 crore aimed at strengthening the operational capabilities of the Indian armed forces. The Defence Ministry confirmed that the approvals cover requirements across the Army, Navy, and Air Force, ensuring a significant boost to national security preparedness.
Indian Army Acquisitions

For the Army, the approvals include procurement of Low Level Munition Systems designed for precision strikes on tactical targets. Low Level Lightweight Radars will be inducted to detect and track small, low‑flying unmanned aerial systems. The Pinaka Multiple Launch Rocket System (MRLS) will be enhanced with long‑range guided rocket ammunition, improving accuracy and range for engaging high‑value targets. Additionally, the Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction System Mk‑II, with extended range, will be deployed to safeguard vital assets in both tactical combat zones and hinterland areas.

Indian Navy Acquisitions
The Navy will receive Bollard Pull (BP) tugs to assist ships and submarines in berthing, unberthing, and maneuvering within confined waters and ports. High Frequency Software Defined Radios (HF SDR) will be introduced to strengthen long‑range communication during critical operations such as boarding and landing. The High Altitude Long Range (HALE) Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) will provide continuous intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities, ensuring reliable maritime domain awareness across the Indian Ocean region.

Strategic Impact
The approvals reflect the government’s focus on modernizing the armed forces with advanced technology and equipment. By enhancing precision strike capabilities, surveillance systems, and maritime support infrastructure, the DAC’s decisions are expected to significantly improve India’s defence readiness and operational efficiency.
