DySP Kalpana Verma suspended over financial misconduct allegations

Chhattisgarh DySP Kalpana Verma suspended after businessman alleged she took money, property, and assets; probe found misuse of position

A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) posted in Dantewada district, Chhattisgarh, has been suspended following serious allegations of financial misconduct. The officer, Kalpana Verma, was accused by businessman Deepak Tandon of misusing her position and causing him a financial loss of nearly ₹2 crore.

Complaint and Allegations

On December 16, Tandon filed a written complaint with Chhattisgarh Director General of Police Arun Dev Gautam, alleging that Verma, along with her father and brother, had taken money, jewellery, property, and even a car from him under the pretext of marriage. He also submitted evidence, including WhatsApp chats, to support his claims.

Investigation Findings

A senior police officer confirmed that a preliminary investigation revealed financial transactions, discrepancies between Verma’s statements and digital evidence, and indications of illegal financial benefits. The inquiry also noted misuse of her official position and acquisition of assets beyond her means.

Suspension Order

The suspension order stated that Verma’s conduct violated Rule-3 of the Chhattisgarh Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1965. Consequently, she has been suspended under Rule-9 of the Chhattisgarh Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1966. During her suspension, her headquarters will be at the Police Headquarters in Nav Raipur, Atal Nagar, and she will be entitled to subsistence allowance as per rules.

Official Stand

Authorities emphasized that her actions were “unbecoming of a civil servant,” citing the sharing of sensitive information and financial irregularities. The case has now triggered a deeper investigation, with officials promising strict action based on final findings.

The suspension has drawn attention to accountability within the police force, underscoring the importance of integrity and ethical conduct in public service.
