The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative effective from April 1, 2024, aiming to deter the misuse of FASTags and promote adherence to Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines. This initiative seeks to address issues such as the issuance of multiple FASTags for a single vehicle and incomplete KYC processes, which have led to disruptions at toll plazas.

NHAI’s decision comes in response to reports of some users acquiring multiple FASTags for a single vehicle and failing to affix them properly, causing delays and inconvenience for other highway users. To enforce compliance, NHAI urges FASTag users to complete their KYC processes promptly. FASTags lacking KYC completion will be deactivated or blacklisted by banks after February 29, 2024, as stated by a PIB release.

To facilitate smoother toll transactions, NHAI provides essential FAQs addressing concerns regarding FASTag usage, recharge procedures, KYC status checks, and penalties for non-compliance. Users are reminded that each vehicle should possess only one active FASTag, linked to its respective RC copy. Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in FASTag deactivation or blacklisting by the issuing bank. NHAI emphasizes the importance of following these regulations to ensure efficient toll collection and effective management of the FASTag system on national highways.
