In a significant development, the Supreme Court has reprimanded the Indian Medical Association (IMA) over its response to the ongoing Patanjali Ayurved case. Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanulla expressed stern disapproval of IMA President RV Asokan’s remarks, calling them “unfortunate” and questioning the organization’s integrity.

The bench flagged Asokan’s comments, which criticized the Supreme Court’s stance on the matter, and demanded his interview with a news agency be submitted as evidence. Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing Patanjali Ayurved, brought attention to these remarks, prompting the court to warn of “more serious consequences.”

Expressing dissatisfaction with the Uttarakhand State Licensing Authority’s response, the court observed a lack of proactive action until its intervention. The bench underscored the importance of accountability and compliance with regulatory standards.

The case, initiated in November last year upon IMA’s petition, highlights concerns over false and misleading claims in pharmaceutical advertisements. The Supreme Court’s scrutiny emphasizes the need for transparency and accuracy in the healthcare sector.

As the legal proceedings continue, the court’s rebuke of the IMA underscores the gravity of the situation and the importance of upholding ethical standards in the medical profession.
