Rameshwaram Cafe owners clarify that stock discarded by food security officials was meant to be dispatched

    Rameshwaram Cafe was one of the several food outlets raided

One of the outlets of the Rameshwaram Cafe in Hyderabad has come under the scrutiny of the Telangana Food Safety officials. A raid by the officials uncovered that the expiry date of the Urad Dal that was being used was in March 2024. 100 kg of Urad Dal was being used by the outlet. Similarly 10 kg of curd and 8 litres of curd that had expired was also being used. Additionally unlabelled rice and jaggery were also found on the premises. The food handler did not have medical fitness certificates. The bins were also found to not have been properly covered. 

The cafe is located in the Madhapur of Hyderabad. An update regarding the raid was provided by the Telangana Food Safety Commissioner. Rameshwaram Cafe was among the several food outlets across Hyderabad that were inspected by officials.

The owner of the chain of Rameshwaram Cafes, Raghavendra has now responded in light of these developments in an nteraction with a popular media outlet. He stated that an internal enquiry into the incident will be conducted. He clarified that the dal was meant to be dispatched and not used for food preparation. He also addressed concerns pertaining to unlabelled rice by highlighting that its use is not outside the bounds of the law.
