Virat Kohli once again showcased his brilliance, scoring his 52nd ODI century to lead India to a thrilling 17run win over South Africa in the opening match of the threegame series. Kohlis 135 off 120 balls anchored Indias innings, helping the team post a formidable 349 for eight. 

Kohli shared a crucial 136run stand with Rohit Sharma, who contributed 57 off 51 balls. Rohit also reached a personal milestone, smashing his 352nd six in ODIs to surpass Shahid Afridis longstanding record. KL Rahul added further strength to the batting lineup with a fluent 60 off 56 deliveries, ensuring India maintained momentum throughout the innings.

India’s bowlers backed up the batting effort with disciplined performances. Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh struck early blows, reducing South Africa to 11 for three. Tony de Zorzi and Matthew Breetzke attempted to rebuild, but Kuldeep Yadav’s spell in the middle overs proved decisive. His four wickets, including two in the 34th over, shifted the game firmly in India’s favor. Harshit Rana finished with three wickets, while Prasidh Krishna sealed the victory by dismissing Corbin Bosch in the final over. 

South Africa fought hard, reaching 332 for nine in 49.2 overs, but fell short of the target. The win gave India a 10 lead in the series, with the next clash scheduled in Raipur on Wednesday. 

The match highlighted the impact of India’s senior players, with Kohli and Rohit leading from the front. Their performances, combined with effective bowling, have boosted team confidence as India looks to secure the series.
