  • Bumrah returns, with spin led by Kuldeep and Varun
  • No Karnataka player in the Asia Cup 2025 squad

India names its 15-member squad for the Asia Cup beginning September 9 in UAE. Suryakumar Yadav takes charge, but no Karnataka cricketer finds a place.

The BCCI has unveiled Team India’s 15-member squad for the Asia Cup 2025, set to begin on September 9 in the UAE. The announcement, made at a press meet in Mumbai, confirms Suryakumar Yadav as captain with Shubman Gill as vice-captain.

The squad blends youth with experience:

Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, and Axar Patel provide the all-round depth, while Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh bring in fearless batting power. Wicketkeeping duties will be split between Jitesh Sharma and Sanju Samson. In the bowling department, Jasprit Bumrah’s return after injury adds firepower alongside Arshdeep Singh and newcomer Harshit Rana. Spin is covered with Varun Chakaravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav.

However, the selection has raised eyebrows in Karnataka cricketing circles. Despite Bengaluru being a hub for Indian cricket, not a single Karnataka player has been picked. This omission has sparked disappointment among fans who were hoping to see local talents like KL Rahul, Prasidh Krishna make the cut, especially in a multi-nation tournament like the Asia Cup.

India will open its campaign against hosts UAE on September 9, before clashing with arch-rivals Pakistan on September 14 in Dubai.
With the squad settled, the focus now shifts to how effectively this combination can deliver under SKY’s captaincy on a big stage.
