In a tragic incident today, two people, including a 17-year-old, lost their lives in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district after a Toyota Fortuner SUV from the convoy of BJP candidate Karan Bhushan Singh collided with a bike. The SUV belongs to Singh, the son of six-time MP and former wrestling federation chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

The deceased have been identified as 17-year-old Rehan and his 24-year-old cousin Shahzad. According to the FIR filed by Chanda Begum, Rehan’s mother, the accident occurred around 9 am when the two were on their way to buy medicines. A speeding SUV, part of the convoy and marked with “police escort” on the rear windscreen, hit their bike, killing both on the spot. Another individual was injured and has been hospitalized.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh recently made headlines after being accused of sexually harassing women wrestlers, leading to charges being framed against him by a Delhi court. These allegations are believed to have impacted his political career, with the BJP opting to field his son Karan Bhushan Singh for the Kaiserganj Lok Sabha seat instead. Karan’s brother, Pratik Bhushan Singh, serves as the MLA from the Gonda constituency.

The accident site saw a massive crowd gather as the victims’ family members demanded justice. Police have arrested the driver and seized the vehicle. Senior police officer Radheysham Rai stated that the bodies have been sent for autopsy and further investigation is underway. It remains unconfirmed whether Karan Bhushan Singh was present in the convoy at the time of the accident.
