Several ward names and boundaries across Bengaluru’s new Greater Bengaluru Authority have been revised, with major changes in East, North and West City Corporations.
The Karnataka Government has released a fresh notification revising the names of several wards under the newly formed Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA). This comes after objections were raised regarding the earlier names and boundary markings in different zones.
The GBA comprises five city corporations with a total of 369 wards, and several residents’ groups had submitted complaints about political references, historical inaccuracies, and administrative inconsistencies in the earlier list. Responding to this, the Government has now issued updates to both ward names and certain boundary limits.

Major Change: ‘Akash Ward’ renamed to ‘Aero City’
The most debated ward name in the North City Corporation, ‘Akash Ward’, has been replaced with ‘Aero City’, following strong opposition from Yelahanka MLA S.R Vishwanath. Critics had questioned whether the earlier name referenced Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s son. The Government has now adopted a neutral, location-appropriate title based on the airport-linked region.
North City Corporation Revisions
Three wards have been renamed:
• Raj Kempegowda → Choudeshwari
• Akash → Aero City
• Yelahanka Old Town → Raj Kempegowda

• Devasandra → Rajarajeshwari Temple Ward
• Ward No. 36 originally proposed as Bharat Jodo is now titled ‘Bharat Aikya’.

One Change in South; No Changes in Central
While the South City Corporation saw one name change, the Central City Corporation remains unchanged as no objections were reported.
Boundary Adjustments
Apart from names, select ward boundaries have been corrected to align with local demarcation requests and administrative needs. The updated notification finalises the structure of wards before civic administration begins under the GBA.
