Daytime train services between Bengaluru, Mangaluru and Karwar have restarted after six months, following the completion of electrification works on the Sakleshpur–Subrahmanya Ghat section, bringing back six key trains and the popular Vistadome coach.

After being suspended for nearly six months, daytime train services connecting Bengaluru with Mangaluru and Karwar have resumed, offering relief to thousands of passengers who depend on this crucial rail corridor. The services were halted in early June due to ongoing electrification works on the Sakleshpur-Ghati Subrahmanya railway section, a vital stretch through the Western Ghats.

With the completion of the electrification project, six major trains, including the Gomateshwara Express and Karwar Express, are now back on track. The suspension, which was initially planned until the end of October, was extended until mid-December due to delays in the infrastructure work.

•    Yeshwantpur – Mangaluru Junction Gomateshwara Tri-Weekly Express (16575)

A major highlight of the resumption is the return of the Vistadome coach service, which had also remained suspended during the electrification phase. The Vistadome coaches are attached to the Gomateshwara Express and Karwar Express, offering passengers a scenic travel experience through the Western Ghats.

This route passes through Hassan and Subrahmanya Road, known for dense forests, valleys, tunnels and bridges. The specially designed Vistadome coach features large glass windows and a transparent roof, allowing passengers to enjoy uninterrupted views of the lush landscapes, waterfalls and hills along the ghat section.

Railway officials noted that the completion of electrification will now ensure smoother, more efficient and reliable train operations on this stretch. The revival of these services has been welcomed by passengers, tourists and daily commuters alike, many of whom had been eagerly waiting for the Vistadome experience to return.
